For When Your Vision Seems Unclear

In order to carry a positive action we must develop here a positive vision.

~ Dalai Lama

Having good vision means that we can see clearly. Seeing clearly means that what we are seeing is born from a place of truth. Truth and wisdom are like two dance partners attempting to create something of exquisite beauty. They are the two pillars of a home which welcome kindness, gratitude, happiness, understanding, peace and ultimate freedom.

The quote above suggests that having a positive vision is the precursor carrying out positive action in one’s life. Our actions align with our vision when our vision becomes something we see incredibly clear. The more clear we can see our vision, the easier it will be for our actions to naturally flow from that place without thinking about knowing exactly the right thing to do for our vision in every moment.

Yet sometimes, action is what produces our vision in the first place. Sometimes we need to experience something, giving us a taste of what it is like, in order to see a vision more clearly for the direction we wish to go in life.

To gain clarity of a vision for our lives that is born from a place of truth and wisdom, we can ask ourselves some questions.

  • Does my vision produce greater compassion?
  • Is my vision rooted in service to others, or is it merely to serve my own desires?
  • What do you want the impact of your time on Earth to be once you are no longer here?
  • Is my vision motivated by money, or by purpose and joy?

Creating a vision for life can be most helpful in actually taking steps in the direction you are meant to go. Without a vision, it becomes easy for us to take actions which are actually fulfilling the vision, for good or for ill, of someone else. Recognizing the true birthplace of a good vision is the beginning to seeing clearly.

What is your vision? How do you gain clarity when you feel like you don’t know what to do next in life?
