Yahya Sinwar has been the leader of Hamas in Gaza since August, after Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh was killed by Israel on a visit to Iran.
Many, especially in the United States, view this killing of the top Hamas leader in Gaza as an opportunity for Israel to claim a symbolic victory and seek peace. It is proposed that possibly Hamas may now be led by those who may be more disposed to ending the war and releasing Israeli hostages.
I am skeptical of violence ever leading to peace. I hope I am wrong, and that now peace may swiftly come to the palestinians region at war. However, as Martin Luther King Jr. famously said, “Hate begets hate; violence begets violence; toughness begets a greater toughness. We must meet the forces of hate with the power of love.”
When peace becomes the true desire of those in power, there will be peace.
